Deck Painting and Wood Board Replacement in Silver Spring, MD

Scope of Work
Project Overview
The homeowner wanted to refresh an existing painted wood deck that had started showing signs of wear after years of outdoor exposure. The project focused on improving the appearance of the deck while replacing several deteriorated boards that could no longer hold paint properly.
In addition to painting the walking surface, we refinished the railings, built-in benches, and the attached picnic table so the entire deck would have one consistent finish. Before painting began, the table received a new pressure-treated tabletop board to replace a section that had deteriorated from moisture exposure.

Site Conditions
The Property and Site Conditions
The existing deck was structurally serviceable, but several areas had weathered over time. The painted finish had worn away in places, making surface preparation necessary before applying new paint.
During the inspection, we identified approximately six to seven deck boards that had deteriorated beyond normal refinishing. Replacing these boards before painting helped create a more uniform surface and prevented damaged wood from affecting the finished appearance.
The attached picnic table also had a rotted tabletop board that required replacement. Since the homeowner wanted the entire deck to share the same color, the benches, railings, and previously painted portions beneath the deck were all included in the scope of work.

What We Did
We began by sanding the existing painted surfaces to remove loose and peeling paint, followed by power washing the deck to clean away dirt, mildew, and debris. Once the wood had dried completely, we replaced the damaged deck boards and installed a new pressure-treated board on top of the picnic table where rot had developed.
After the repairs were complete, we painted the entire deck in a single uniform color. This included the deck surface, railings, built-in benches, picnic table, and the previously painted framing and support areas beneath the deck.
The completed project gave the backyard a cleaner, more consistent appearance while extending the life of the existing deck without making structural modifications.
