Wood Fence Removal and Black Chain Link Installation in Washington, DC

Scope of Work

Project Overview

The property had a six-foot pressure-treated wood fence running about 186 feet around the back of the yard, including the corner. The homeowner wanted it gone and replaced with a lower, more open fence line.

We removed the old wood fence and installed roughly 186 feet of four-foot black vinyl-coated chain-link fencing around the same perimeter. The one wood element in the new layout is the gate: a six-foot pressure-treated wood gate that we widened from three feet to four feet for easier access. It sits next to the concrete walkway by the house and connects directly into the chain link on either side.

Site Conditions

The Property and Site Conditions

The old fence was a six-foot solid wood fence that wrapped around the back corner of the property. It was at the end of its life and due for replacement.

The new fence is a different setup. At four feet, the black chain link marks the property line and keeps the yard contained while still leaving the view of the yard open. The gate stayed wood and was built taller than the surrounding fence at six feet, with the opening widened to four feet. We hung it with black hardware so it matched the black chain link running off both sides.

The yard was in the middle of a landscaping overhaul when we did this work, with bare dirt, a new concrete pad, and patchy grass across the area, so the fence line went in around a site that was still being finished.

ASSESsMENT

What We Did

Before any new fencing went up, we pulled the required permits so the work met local fence regulations. We then removed the existing six-foot wood fence and hauled away the old materials.

With the perimeter cleared, we installed the four-foot black coated chain-link fencing around the full backyard ranging about 186 feet. We followed the same boundary line the old fence had used.

For the gate, we built a six-foot pressure-treated wood gate and set the opening at four feet wide, up from the previous three-foot width. We set it next to the concrete walkway, fitted the black hardware, and hung it so it swung clean and lined up with the chain link on both sides.
